Some words are very sensitive to the magic of context. Depending on where they are used, they can have a completely different meaning.
If you want to use a more classical terminology, some words are polysemous. And that the meaning of these words is determined by the context of their use.
For example, consider the word ‘baguette’.
Chez le boulanger 
vous pouvez trouver 
une baguette 
Un magicien 
a une baguette magique 
Un chef d’orchestre 
a dans une main 
une baguette 
Si tu joues du tambour 
il faut aussi des baguettes
